RGA Office of Architectural Design

Profile

RGA, Office of Architectural Design, Inc. brings nearly three decades of dedicated professional services to the architectural practice, throughout Southern and Central California, as well as Arizona and Texas.

RGA offers a complete range of architectural services, specializing in warehouse, industrial, E-commerce fullfillment, and light industrial / flex business parks, along with the specialized interior improvements and corporate office components that often accompany these facilities. Our focus is to provide complete, accurate and coordinated project documentation with a constant commitment to our client’s schedule and budget.  We insist on principal involvement in all projects, which has been a key factor in the firm’s reputation for well coordinated drawing sets and strong relationships with clients, contractors, and other project team members.

At RGA, we view teamwork as the essential factor in every successful project. We have experience with a multitude of team structures including design/build, and we routinely engage the work of additional project consultants such as structural and MPE engineers under either our direction or the direction of the Owner or CM.  Whatever the final team structure, our mission remains constant: to facilitate the critical ingredients of communication, clarity of tasks, and a thorough understanding and development of the project through design and construction.

Over the past three decades, RGA has positioned themselves as a regional leader in the California industrial market, with a high level of principal involvement to provide clients with well designed projects, responsive delivery approach, and comprehensive construction documentation.  These remain core values of our practice today.

History

RGA was founded by Dennis Roy and Mike Gill in 1992.  Prior to forming RGA, Dennis and Mike were managing directors at another California based architecture firm.  The firm opened their office in downtown Long Beach, CA, where they developed a small practice focused on office and industrial work, as well as port terminal projects at the nearby Port of Long Beach.  In 2001, the firm relocated to Irvine, CA to bring it closer to the offices of a growing number of their regional and institutional clients, as well as to the expanding industrial market in the Inland Empire.  In the ensuing 20 years, the office and staff has grown as RGA’s reputation and client relationships continued to thrive.  In 2015, Chris Savage, a long-time employee, was brought in as a Partner and Associate Principal to ensure the continuation of the firm into the next generation of leadership.  In 2018, Dennis Roy stepped back from day-to-day involvement in the firm practice, and Chris Savage and Mike Gill continued as the current and active Principals and Partners.

Expertise

RGA specializes in industrial work of all types, from light industrial business parks to million square foot plus distribution centers.  We have worked extensively on warehouse logistics and E-commerce fulfillment centers, food processing facilities, cold storage buildings, manufacturing plants, and transfer hubs for global couriers such as UPS and FedEx.  As part of this work, RGA also frequently works on the interior tenant improvement scope, ranging from highly specialized improvements for sophisticated automated facility operators, corporate headquarters offices, to flexible office spaces delivered to speculatively.  Our office TI projects often range from 500 sf to 50,000 sf.

RGA also has experience in commercial office projects, including core and shell office / MOB projects, as well as build-to-suit two and three story office projects.

In total, RGA has completed design and construction documents for hundreds of millions of square feet of building development in its nearly 30 year history and has master-planned many thousands of acres in the development pipeline for our clients.  Our clients range from small regional real estate businesses and builders to global developers, institutional portfolio investors, and Fortune 100 companies.

Sustainability

RGA was an early adopter of the USGBC LEED® rating program.  Our first LEED project, the Contessa Foods project completed in 2006, was the first LEED Certified frozen food processing facility in the country and was awarded the Gold Certification level.  Since then RGA has designed and completed approximately 50 LEED Certified projects totaling over 25 million square feet, with another dozen LEED projects in the pipeline.  Here are some statistics on our portfolio of LEED Certified projects:

  • 49 Certified projects

  • 61 Certified buildings

  • Approx. 25,000,000 sf Certified

  • Approx. 123 million total gallons of water saved (indoor & outdoor) year 1 basis

  • 54,626,361 total kWh saved on a year 1 basis

  • $7.2 million total energy cost savings on a year 1 basis

Our projects have achieved certification levels from basic Certified all the way to Platinum ratings, in both the New Construction and Core & Shell ratings programs.  RGA frequently engages sustainability consultants as part of our project team, or alternatively we can work with the Owner's consultant during the design process and construction process.  Regardless of the team structure, RGA understands the LEED process as well as the cost implications for certain credits, and can help lead the design team towards the Owner's sustainability goals.
